Art Call for Burning Man

black rock city
Dear artists, do you have or would you like to make an art piece for exhibition at Burning Man?

We are a Burning Man art camp, Pablos Crusty Creatives, is looking for suitable art pieces to be exhibited in our outdoor gallery that we will be bringing to Burning Man in 2023! The art will be exhibited in a large 2 story installation that was at Burning Man last year (Faradays Cage) . We are modifying it to serve as an open Playa art gallery this year.

The 2023 Burning Man theme is Animalia which includes human and mythical creatures as well, but really any theme will be considered including light installations. The art needs to be able to withstand the outdoor elements of the high desert (heat, dust, rain and high wind). One thing of note is that shortly after installation the art pieces will be covered in a fine layer of white, flour like dust, so non porous mediums like metal, plastic, etc may be desirable as it is hard to get the dust off porous substrates. We will have lighting available for each piece depending on needs.

Fulcrum Fund Emergency Relief Grants

artist submission

The Fulcrum Fund, a grant program of 516 ARTS and a partner in the Regional Regranting Program of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, announces a second round of emergency relief grants to benefit the local arts community. In partnership with the Frederick Hammersley Foundation, which is providing $60,000 toward this effort, this round will provide grants of $5,000 to 12 alternative art spaces in New Mexico that have lost income as a result of the cornavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.

Round #1 (deadline was April 15), we received 389 applications for 60 $1,000 grants to individual artists living and working within an 80-mile radius of Albuquerque. Round #2 provides a focus on artist-run and alternative artspaces, which has been a category of projects recognized by the Fulcrum Fund for the past four years. This dispersal of funds is part of an effort to help sustain these spaces until they can reopen after the pandemic. Continue reading “Fulcrum Fund Emergency Relief Grants”

STUDIO ARTISTS OF ALL DISCIPLINES ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY!

SMALL GRANTS FOR BIG IDEAS

SITE Santa Fe’s SPREAD is a micro-granting initiative that provides small grants for innovative projects and artworks conceived by New Mexico-based artists. SPREAD is a recurring public dinner designed to generate community-driven financial support to fund artistic innovation.

HOW SPREAD WORKS

At a large community dinner, guests pay a sliding scale entrance fee (starting at $15), for which they will receive dinner and a ballot. During dinner, the SPREAD audience will hear short proposals from up to eight artists for innovative and yet-to-be-realized new projects. Diners will then cast their votes for their favorite project. At the end of dinner, the artist whose proposal receives the most votes will be awarded all the funds collected at the door to realize their project.

The inaugural SPREAD event, held on March 18, 2011, raised $7,722 in proceeds from the door, which was then given to the winning artist group, Meow Wolf, to support their installation The Due Return at the Center for Contemporary Art. Since then, SPREAD has awarded over $22,000 to New Mexico artists. Past winners also include Jason Jaacks, Cut+Paste Society, and Axle Contemporary. For more info on the previous finalists and winners, click here.

If you have questions, please use the contact form on the SPREAD website, accessible here. No phone calls, please.

Railyard Art Project

Santa Fe Railyard

The Railyard Art Project collaborates with artists and inspired, creative projects crafted by individuals and organized groups to temporarily place installations, artworks and other innovative objects, ideas and contextually appropriate endeavors in Santa Fe, New Mexico’s Railyard Park + Plaza.

The Railyard Park + Plaza is an urban art environment and is itself a work of public art. Artists, organizations and collaborative, creative teams are encouraged to respond to this intentionally designed landscape with temporary art and performance projects that emphasize engagement, participation and education. Collaborations across disciplines—artists, designers, scientists, historians, sociologists, etc—are of particular interest. Additionally, projects that respond to specific locations in the Park + Plaza through community and historic context are encouraged. However, there are no conceptual or collaborative factors limiting the scope of proposals for projects: the Railyard Art Committee is open to any and all proposals that fit the usage policies of the Railyard Park & Plaza and comply with the terms and conditions of the Railyard Park + Plaza’s multiple public and private stakeholders.

Potential projects for location in the Park + Plaza are evaluated on an ongoing basis by the Railyard Art Committee, a volunteer group of dedicated community members that works with the Railyard Stewards to help locate exceptional artworks and projects in this vital center of public life in Santa Fe. Projects are currently being accepted on the condition that applicants, or at least one member of the applicant team is a current New Mexico resident.
