ON DISPLAY MARCH 13, 2021 – SEPTEMBER 5, 2021
Kim Richardson states, “The ocean invokes breath naturally, by the coming and going of the tide, with water comes life, primordial life. In my artistic practice I look to the natural environment as a mirror and feedback to what is happening internally and externally, consciously and unconsciously. More than ever we need to be present and aware of what is happening in the natural world around us and to open up to the joys it shares and the protection it needs. If we are disconnected to nature we miss a part of the puzzle of being human and whole”.
Oceans are sometimes known as the lungs of the planet, since the plankton that live near the surface produce oxygen and consume carbon. Interested in the qualities where place, land, sea and sky meet, Richardson evokes nature’s harmony and deep geologic time.
Kim studied fine art and photography at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia, and Parsons School of Design in Paris. She worked in collaborative projects that exhibited at Centre Pompidou in Paris and Alleged Gallery in New York City. Kim is a photographic artist presently living in Santa Fe, NM with her husband, painter and educator, Willy Bo Richardson and their lovely, dynamic daughter Audrey Richardson. In addition to her photography she also has a background in fine art printing for artists who she prints with master printer, Steve Zeifman, with Rush Creek Editions.
