An informal garage show exhibiting works from Bernie Lieving, Charlotte Peach, and Veronica Primerano who have created a visual language for medicalization, mental illness and the transformative aspects of life.
VulnerAbility: A Journey of Self and Strength” will showcase new works from three artists who explore their personal battles with mental and physical health and the triumphs of overcoming them. Their diverse mediums—ranging from painting to sculpture to multimedia installations—reflect a shared mission: to open up conversations about the struggles we face and the courage it takes to heal.
Each artist has crafted an intimate collection that invites the viewer into their world of vulnerability and strength, highlighting the resilience of the human spirit. Whether it’s through abstract visual representations of emotional states, figurative pieces that express physical transformation, or interactive installations that encourage reflection. This exhibition promises to be a transformative experience for all who attend.
Exhibiting Artists:
– Veronica Primerano’s work focuses on her relationship with her brother who has Schizophrenia and deals with addiction, incarceration and has interesting
hallucinations of color fields that tie into his understanding of his world. In this work Veronica seeks an understanding of her brother’s experiences and how to navigate a loving relationship with him.
– Charlotte Peach is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores themes of selfhood and personal growth in the face of mental and physical health challenges. Using a blend of sentimental objects, recycled materials, and natural elements, Peach examines the process of surrendering one’s safety blanket. Chrysalis reflects the artist’s journey of shedding her cocoon in pursuit of a more authentic experience of life.
– Bernie Lieving’s out with lanterns looking for myself: to my muse E.D. is composed of selected mixed media pieces he made since 5/1/22. MayDay of 2022, he experienced a pathological fracture of his femur, and has been subsequently diagnosed with 7 conditions associated with the musculoskeletal system. This body of work explores the impact that severe and acute chronic pain, medicalization, objectification, loss of mobility and activity level, and maneuvering through an absent healthcare system have had on his well being, and more importantly, lack thereof.
Join us in this rare opportunity to witness the power of art to spark conversations, foster empathy, and illuminate the path to recovery in ways that words alone cannot. The event will be held in Veronica’s home studio, presenting as the pop-up Garage Gallery, an intimate setting, allowing for meaningful interactions with the artists and a personal, in-depth exploration of the themes presented.
