The Visual Arts Center is the first of several buildings in Santa Fe designed by the Mexican modernist Ricardo Legorreta in which he challenged the dominant Santa Fe Style with an alternative regionalism for New Mexico. Instead of tan colors and sculptural forms imitating traditional adobe buildings, Legoretta proposed an architecture that is boldly polychromatic, crisply geometric, and unmistakably modern.

This four-week online course brought to you by SITE Santa Fe will consider the history of feminist thought in contemporary art from the 1960s to the present through case studies of artworks, exhibitions, performances, and initiatives that highlight feminist practice.

In the late 1960s, the University of New Mexico played a key role in bringing together creativity and technology in what was then the nascent field of computer art. Now a new book from Museum of New Mexico Press offers the first in depth account of this early digital creativity — “Sharing Code: Art1, Frederick Hammersley, and the Dawn of Computer Art.”
Frank says it was a unique period in the evolution of digital art, and in 1968 New Mexico was the perfect place for it to happen.

The Fulcrum Fund, a grant program of 516 ARTS and a partner in the Regional Regranting Program of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, announces a second round of emergency relief grants to benefit the local arts community. In partnership with the Frederick Hammersley Foundation, which is providing $60,000 toward this effort, this round will provide grants of $5,000 to 12 alternative art spaces in New Mexico that have lost income as a result of the cornavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.
Round #1 (deadline was April 15), we received 389 applications for 60 $1,000 grants to individual artists living and working within an 80-mile radius of Albuquerque. Round #2 provides a focus on artist-run and alternative artspaces, which has been a category of projects recognized by the Fulcrum Fund for the past four years. The 21st annual Recycle Santa Fe Art Festival takes place November 15-17, 2019 at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center (201 W. Marcy Street). The event includes over 100 artists in the Art Market, over 30 artists in the adult juried art exhibit, 38 local classrooms participating in our student juried art exhibit, and amazing outfits in the Trash Fashion Show and tons of treasures created in our Make and Take art area! ….AND with the help of the City of Santa Fe Environmental Services Department, Eldorado/285 recycles, Cowgirl Barbeque Catering and Reunity Resources we diverted 289 pounds of organics and 193 lbs of recycling!!
