Each of these four artists brings their unique approach to the medium, offering different perspectives on nature, environment, and place. Through their work, viewers are invited to consider how photography can capture both the beauty of the everyday and the layers of meaning that lie beneath the surface, providing a fresh and thoughtful vision of the world.
The Artists & Their Work
- Bonnie Bishop presents both botanical still lifes and images from Cuba, creating a cohesive dialogue between the quiet elegance of nature and the vibrant energy of urban life. Her botanical photographs celebrate the natural world’s simplicity, while her Cuban images explore the rich textures and dynamic life found in the streets and landscapes of the island. Together, her works capture the beauty in both the stillness of nature and the movement of everyday life.
- Fran Gutierrez captures the unique urban patina found in textured walls and weathered surfaces. Her photographs focus on the rich layers of time, capturing the beauty of decay and the marks left behind by the environment. Through abstract compositions, Gutierrez highlights the subtle, yet striking patterns found in the walls of cities, turning them into visual poetry that speaks to the passage of time and the impermanence of human spaces.
- Kim Richardson focuses on environmental photography, capturing the subtle, textured beauty of nature through abstract forms. Her work transforms landscapes into intimate compositions, revealing hidden patterns and structures that often go unnoticed. Richardson’s photographs offer a meditative reflection on the natural world, encouraging a deeper connection to the environment.
- Alfredo Rojas also draws from the landscape of Gómez Palacio, Mexico, creating environmental abstractions that distill the essence of the land into minimalist forms. His work highlights the subtle interplay of color, texture, and shape, inviting the viewer to experience the landscape in a new, more abstract way. Through Rojas’ eyes, the landscape becomes a series of evocative patterns that transcend traditional representation.
Exhibition Overview
Four Views brings together these four artists whose works, while distinct in style and subject, all share a deep sensitivity to the natural and urban worlds. Through their complementary approaches to photography, the exhibition offers a nuanced exploration of how the medium can both document and transform reality. From the stillness of botanical forms to the abstract beauty of urban textures and environmental landscapes, the show captures the variety of ways in which photography can uncover beauty in both the familiar and the unfamiliar.
The exhibition will be on view from October 25 to November 30, 2025. After November 8, the gallery will be open by appointment only. Visitors are encouraged to experience how these artists, through their different yet complementary lenses, reveal the complexities of nature, environment, and place.
Artist Talk: Saturday, November 8, 3-5pm
In addition to the exhibition, FOMA Gallery will host an artist talk on Saturday, November 8, from 3-5pm. The conversation, led by Katie Doyle, Assistant Art Curator at the New Mexico Museum of Art, will explore the exhibition’s themes and offer insights into the creative processes behind the featured works.
