Grand Opening of Vladem Contemporary this Saturday, September 23rd!
 
To celebrate the opening, the Museum will offer free admission at both locations all weekend, with festivities primarily taking place on Saturday, the 23rd.
 
Both locations will be open 10AM – 5PM, Saturday and Sunday.
 
Come celebrate this exciting new chapter!

 

 
Saturday, Sept. 23: Vladem Grand Opening
 
A ribbon cutting will occur at 9:30 AM.
 
Throughout the building, there will be a variety of art activities related to the inaugural exhibition, Shadow and Light. Coloring with prisms, sketching shadows with forms, silhouette portraits, shadow puppets, and more.
 
On September 23rd, free refreshments will be provided, and the Women’s Board will join us in celebrating the Grand Opening with their hospitality. Over the past 100 years, the Women’s Board of the Museum of New Mexico has been dedicated to increasing the participation and enjoyment of the public in museum programs. The Women’s Board will be serving refreshments on the Museum’s Terrace throughout the day on Saturday, the 23rd. Enjoy the view and a nice snack!
 
From 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM Queen Bee Music Association will join us in the education classroom with their instrument petting zoo, offering people of all ages the opportunity to experiment with music.
 
From 12:30 – 4 PM, enjoy music from dj erin e on the Rooftop Terrace.
 
Sunday, Sept. 24: The Celebration Continues
Free admission at the Vladem Contemporary and the Plaza Building. At the Vladem Contemporary enjoy a 30-minute, docent-led tour on the half-hour, 10:30 AM through 3:30 PM.
 
We will also have art activities throughout the day in the Vladem classroom and the artist’s studio space, including button making, coloring with prisms, sketching shadows with forms, shadow puppets, and more. Enjoy the art of Shadow & Light and then make some of your own!
 
Getting Here & Parking
The Vladem museum is located at 404 Montezuma Ave, and parking may be found at the Railyard Municipal Garage at 503 Camino de la Familia or at the State Capitol Parking Facility at 485 Galisteo St., which will be open September 23 & 24 6 AM to 9 PM.
 
Parking at Tomasita’s is never permitted.
 
The Rail Runner Express is located to the west right behind the Vladem Contemporary and provides easy access to the museum.
 
The Santa Fe Trails transit system has a stop in front of the Vladem Contemporary on S. Guadalupe St.
 
Introducing New Curator of Contemporary Art

Just in time for this weekend’s festivities, we are thrilled to introduce our new Curator of Contemporary Art, Alexandra Terry.
 
Terry earned a Master of Fine Arts in Curating from Goldsmiths in London and a Bachelor of Arts in Photography from University of Colorado Boulder. She recently served as the Chief Curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara, where she was responsible for establishing a robust program for contemporary art, by curating exhibitions, initiating public arts projects, and cultivating relationships with donors and stakeholders.  
 
Join Alexandra on October 11th for a talk on what she is excited about in regard to the Museum’s Contemporary Art Collection and her vision for the Vladem Contemporary.
